Defintion:
“Basic”
Forcing an essential foundation or starting point.
Basics are a necessity in anyone’s closet, as they are the basis to just about any outfit. Personally, I think that the basic necessities needed in your closet have changed drastically over the past year, as fashion has definitely changed a lot, as everyone seems to have come out of the basic jeans and t-shirt wear and have given basic wear a more streetstyle element, let’s call it street-chic. Basic has however become something different for me this time around, basic has become pops of colour and pops of colour, as colour is more, but colour is also so basic at the same time.
Blogger like Lulama Wolf (queen of minimalism here in SA), Zama Mguni, Lissy Roddy(queen of co-ords), MissJoslin, Hannah Whiting, Dionne Crowe and Bec Watkinson(queen of basics) style basics very well and make an alluring outfit out of just about any basic piece of clothing and make it look street style chic.
Basic could mean anything to anyone in terms of fashion, however, basic screams to me, black, white, grey, tan and denim(colour too, just as long as the item is considered a basic item)
Let's talk about basics in a few categories, 1. Bottoms, 2. Tops and Outwear, 3. Shoes
Bottoms
Cycling Shorts
Everyone's fave. Not only are they something easy to throw on with a cute oversized tee or bandeau, but they are comfortable and allow for flexibility.
My favourite way cycling shorts are styled is with a blazer and some dad sneakers.
SHOP CYCLING SHORTS:

Mom Jeans or Vintage Jeans
The mom jean is a vintage type of jean that has made it way back in stores, these jeans have been a trend for a while now and I can finally see why. They make every body type look appealing.
My fave way these jeans have been styled is definitely with a graphic tee and sneakers.
SHOP MOM JEANS:

Sweat Pants
(a personal fave)
I love love love this trend, sweatpants are possibly the best thing ever created.
My fave way these are styled is with a pair of sneakers and a sweater. As you look warm and comfortable yet very fashionable.
SHOP SWEATPANTS:

Pencil Skirts
These are easily styled up or down and there make the perfect basic piece in any women's closet. You could pair it with heels and look like you ready to make money moves and then pair it with a pair of sneakers and look relaxed, but fashionable.
My fave way pencil skirts are styled is with sneakers and a graphic tee.
SHOP FOR PENCIL SKIRTS:

Bodycon Dresses
Something easy to throw on and you instantly look elegant and all dressed up, these dresses could be styled up or down, with sneakers or heels. I also love the fact that when the dress is longer(over the knees), it could be worn in winter with a long coat.
SHOP BODYCON DRESSES:

Pants
High-waisted belted pants have been a huge trend and were sold everywhere in 2018, and Zara was well known for having these belted pants. However pants have went from being formal wear to being worn casually with some sneakers and I must say I am in love!

Tops
Polo Necks
They are extra warm and I only recently started loving these, they are quite the trend right now but everyone definitely needs at least 20 polo necks in their closet for winter, they could be easily styled under a cute sweater, or with a pair of tight fitting jeans.

Tees
Cropped, oversized, long sleeve or body suit, plain coloured t-shirts are always a need, I can't really explain why, but you just need them! my personal favourite coloured tee is definitely white, because it just goes with everything! However over and above plain t-shirts, graphic tees are must have, as they are easy to thrown over a pair of jeans, or skirt and you instantly add some colour to your outfit, and instantly look extra fashionable.
SHOP GRAPHIC TEES:

Blazers
Blazers have made a big come back in the fashion industry and this time around everyone is wearing blazers more casually other than formally, we have also seen blazers go from being short to being longer and less fitting to oversized.
SHOP BLAZERS:

Coats
Whether it may be teddy bear coats or faux fur coats, these have made their rounds for the past few years and are warm and can be quickly thrown over any outfit. I love these in tan, white and black and think these are a definitely a need in your close, not only for warmth but for stylishness, as well.
SHOP COATS:

Shoes
Dad Sneakers or a Pair of Simple White Sneakers
They give an edge to every outfit and I think my fave colour of these type of sneakers is definitely white. The sneakers can be styled with dresses, skirts, jeans and many other bottoms. I think the most worn type of dad sneaker is definitely the Balenciaga Triple S(our UK instagram blogger love this style of sneaker) and in terms of a simple white sneaker, Low Top Air Force 1's and Alexander McQueen platform sneakers are definitely lovely to have and easy to style
SHOP SNEAKERS:

Co-ords / Matching Sets
These definitely deserved a section of their own and are definitely an unusual addition to this list, they are super easy to style together and you can use the pieces for a set to style individuals in a different way.
